The Importance of Being Cute
Pets are part of the family and we all know that any normal person would never eat one of their family members. Personally I believe it's wrong to eat your own pet in this case the dog that was mentioned in the book. I cannot judge people who eat dogs or whatever they eat because they probably think that me eating chicken is weird or gross; however there's a difference between eating a dog than from eating a dog that you treated as a family member.
When I was little my grandpa gave me a pig, Pinky, when I was raising Pinky I still ate pork however I would have never thought of eating Pinky because I treated him as my child. After my parents killed him and made him steak I cried and didn't eat him as a matter of fact I didn't eat pork for a very long time. So as you can see my pet Pinky was considered family (well I guess I was the only one that considered him like my family because apparently everyone else got to eat a piece of him.) As well as the dog mentioned in the book the people shouldn't have even thought about eating their own pet that they raised as a member of the family. It's different though if they go and get dog meat from the store (or where ever it is that they get it) because maybe it's something normal to them like us going to the store and buying chicken.
"Animals are placed into categories like pets or research subjects. Animals in the pet category are usually named however animals in research subject are not." I believe that this is because animals that are usually in the pet category are animals that you are going to interact with and enjoy their company. You see these animals as an individual in some way however, animals in the research subject category are usually used for a purpose as if they were an object. Even though they're all animals they're treated differently. Biologists wouldn't name the mice in the labs because they're serving a purpose these mice in a sense are going to be mistreated in the process of experimenting on them. When people name their animals is because there is some sort of attachment between them, so it wouldn't make sense of naming a mice when you're the one whose going to mistreat it.

- Pets or Research Subjects? Categories Count
